Crochet name blanket pattern, for any name.

Type a name and a date, choose the blanket size and get the whole C2C pattern: the graph sized to the blanket, every diagonal row written out with the bobbin to use, how much yarn to wind on each bobbin, the border round by round and the yarn for each colour. Free PDF, no sign-up.

  • A whole blanket, not just letters. Pick stroller, receiving, lapghan, crib or throw (or your own size); the tiles come from your tile size and the name sits in the middle, as big as fits.
  • Every bobbin planned. EMMA / 2026 on a receiving blanket is 29 bobbins, never more than 5 at once. Each row says which bobbin works which tiles, when to join a new one and when to cut.
  • Checked, not guessed. The written rows are read back on their own and rebuild the graph tile by tile; the bobbins are replayed row by row, and every bobbin is picked up right where it was left in the row before. The PDF is only made if all of it matches.
  • Free PDF in A4 or US Letter. No account and nothing locked; it is made in your browser.

Carrying works the yarn inside the tiles of the other colour instead of cutting it. C2C tutorials advise carrying across 1 to 3 tiles at most; longer carries pucker.

How it looks crocheted

Each square of the graph is one C2C tile: a chain-3 and three double crochets, worked on the diagonal.

Round 1: with the background colour, work single crochet evenly along each side: 2 sc into the chain side of a tile and 3 sc into its double-crochet side, so about 5 sc for every 2 tiles. Work 3 sc into each corner. Join with a slip stitch.

Round 2 to 3: ch 1, sc in each sc, 3 sc in the centre sc of each corner; join. Each round adds 8 stitches.

Side counts do not include the 3 corner stitches. These counts are a guide: lay the blanket flat after round 1 and add or skip a stitch where the edge ruffles or pulls in.

Engine checks

  • Text fits with 5 tiles clear at the sides and 14 rows above and below
  • All 95 diagonal rows follow the increase/decrease rules at both edges
  • 2304 tiles in total (48 × 48)
  • Every row's written colour counts add up to that row's tile count
  • 2 colours
  • The 95 written rows, read on their own, rebuild every tile of the graph
  • Replaying the 29 bobbins row by row gives every row's colours in working order
  • All 170 times a bobbin carries on into the next row, it is picked up next to where it stopped (at most 2 tiles away)
  • Each of the 2304 tiles belongs to exactly one bobbin; the bobbins' tiles add up to 2057 background and 247 letter tiles
  • Border: 3 rounds, 492 sc in round 1, 8 more in each round after
Every row with its bobbins (95 diagonal rows)

B = background bobbin, L = letter bobbin, numbers are tiles. * = join a new bobbin here. A bobbin named twice in one row is carried inside the tiles in between. ✂ = cut after this row, leaving a 15 cm (6 in) tail.

Blanket sizes

How many C2C tiles for a blanket?

Divide the blanket's width and length by the size of one tile. With worsted yarn and a 5 mm hook a tile is about 1.9 cm; bulky yarn makes 2.6 cm tiles. Yarn is for EMMA / 2026; a longer name moves yarn from the background to the letters, the total barely changes. The border is extra.

Blanket sizes vary from source to source; these are common ones (Oombawka Design, Sleep Foundation). Choose "My own size" in the tool for any other.

C2C bobbins

How many bobbins, and how much on each?

Each area of colour in a C2C row gets its own bobbin. When an area carries on into the next row, the same bobbin carries on; when it splits in two, a new bobbin joins; when two areas meet, one bobbin is cut. The tool follows every area through every row and names each bobbin: B for the background, L for the letters.

For EMMA / 2026 on a receiving blanket that is 12 background and 17 letter bobbins with yarn carried across gaps of up to 2 tiles, or 71 bobbins if you never carry. The bobbin list says how much to wind on each: its tiles at about 29 × the tile size, plus the carried yarn, two 15 cm tails and 10%.

Have a C2C graph of your own? The C2C bobbin calculator plans its bobbins with the same engine.

The written rows name the bobbin for every group of tiles, so you never count squares off the picture: Row 30 ↙ (30): 5 B1, 1 L2*, 7 B1, 1 L1, 1 B1, 1 L1, 14 B1.

Questions

Before you pick up the hook.

How much yarn does a C2C baby blanket take?

In worsted, a stroller blanket (40 × 48 tiles) takes about 1180 m (1291 yd) and a crib blanket (60 × 80) about 2945 m (3221 yd), before the border. The tool splits it by colour and by bobbin. These are estimates: crochet a swatch and measure your tile, and if your tile is bigger the blanket is too.

Can I add a date or a year under the name?

Yes. Type it in the second line. It sits under the name in smaller letters, or the same size if you choose. A slash is written as a full stop: 12/03/2026 becomes 12.03.2026.

What if the name is long?

The letters get smaller until it fits, keeping a tile or more clear at each side. ALEXANDRA on a receiving blanket is 5 tiles tall (small letters). If it doesn't fit even in the smallest letters, the tool says how many tiles it needs.

What border goes on a C2C blanket?

Single crochet: 2 sc into the chain side of each edge tile and 3 into its double-crochet side, about 5 for every 2 tiles, with 3 sc in each corner. Each round after that adds 8 stitches. The tool gives the count for every round.

Can I crochet the name in tapestry crochet instead?

For a tapestry or intarsia graph of a name, use the crochet letter graph generator. It writes every tapestry row in the direction you work. This page is for a whole C2C blanket.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no account and we do not ask for your email. The PDF is made in your browser.
